3 steps to a cosy layered bed.

Creating a warm, inviting space to unwind in is key to a relaxing holiday season.

Here’s my 3 simple steps to a comfy bed you’ll never want to leave!

Dare to duvet. Choosing a bed set for the season is the first step to your dream bed. It doesn’t have to feel tacky to scream Christmas. I picked up this bedding above from M&S last year but you can find the updated version here. I loved the subtle details of winter scenes without overpowering my room. It’s pretty neutral that gave me a blank canvas for adding accessories.

You can opt for larger prints such as check like this brushed flannel from The White Company. If patterns not your thing, switch up your textures with a waffled set like this one from H&M Home or a linen (it’s not just for summer!) such as this stone grey cover from Zara home.

Pillow perfection. Adding additional pillows is a must to lay your restless head after holiday prep! From decorative shams to oxford to standard, where do you start? I can’t remember a time I only had 1 pillow on each side, 2 or 3 is normally preferred. The more you layer, the cosier the feeling! Look for textures and complimentary colours for your bed set pillowcases. This velvet pillowsham on Wayfair is a great backing pillow for that plush feel.

When it comes to the filling, it’s completely up to you. If you’re using a decorative sham like I do, I would use a firmer pillow such as this one from M&S. The rest is down to your own preference.

It’s all in the details. Throws and decorative cushions are the cherry on the cake. As shown above, they don’t have to be specific to this time of year. You can be sustainable and use throws you already own but more is more! Some of my top picks are; this knitted pom pom throw from TK Maxx, this velvet quilted throw from Next and the Ilselill throw from IKEA.

Compliment your bedding with a throw cushion or two. This is where you can be over the top festive! Dunelm have a lovely range of vintage style cushions for Christmas. My favourite is this car cushion cover that will be a beautiful accent to any room. The best part is, it’s budget friendly as it’s only a cover! You can re-use any standard cushion inner and remove it after Christmas.

So now you’ve got your new comfy bed. Snuggle up, light a candle and grab your cocoa. It may be winter but it doesn’t have to feel cold!
