3 tips for tidying up.
Hey there! I was M.I.A the last couple of weeks because it was my birthday celebrations and life happens! This week I turned my focus to tidying up my spaces in a more organised way. We’ve all done the spring clean i’m sure but here are some tips for tidying up and keeping it that way!
A designated home…
I like a place for everything and everything in its place. Sounds simple enough but it can take a little planning to figure this out. Sometimes you have too much of something for the intended cupboard or box, you may have to let things go or re-categorise. You could simply find a new space.
When it comes to finding homes for everything think outside the box for solutions but inside the room where you’d use it most. Most people keep skincare and creams in the bathroom for ease of use. Books are normally kept in the living room areas. Your glassware would normally go in the kitchen together…but what if it didn’t?
Let’s look at the last one, in my house glasses are everywhere. Between the kitchen and the dining they overtake the best part of 3 cupboards but they are organised. Wine glasses/flutes/cocktail go in the dining and casual glasses/pint glasses in the kitchen. Diving deeper into categories can find new homes that just make more sense to your lifestyle.
Boxes aren’t just for decoration…
This may be a pretty obvious one but normally we’d be talking about open storage solutions. The infamous Kallax unit from IKEA is probably the go to boxed storage unit but you can use boxes for space savvy solutions behind closed doors.
Within my bathroom cupboard, I have a series of Tupperware boxes (i’m not joking) to hold categories of items. Tupperware, or an off brand alternative, are great within the bathroom because they are waterproof and stackable. This means you can sort all your things (plus more!) and use upward space rather than just the shelf area available. This idea can also be taken into the kitchen pantry, sideboards or even vanity units!
Vases, jars and more…
A bit part of tidying up is finding storage solutions and chances are you already have them laying around. Old jars and vases can be used to store the smaller items so they don’t get lost. I use a small jar to house all my bobby pins, gone are the days of them multiplying around the house! Any larger jars can be used in the kitchen to store pasta or rice, it could save you some space too, or just look really nice on open shelving.
This is my most common solution because I can re-use items instead of buying more. Sustainable and bank friendly! So if you stumble upon a jar or vase to throw out, think of it’s possibilities.
Just an extra tip: You can also spray paint anything if it needs to match the room.
